It follows the story of Delta 38 “Boss” and Delta Squad throught the clone wars.
This mod is based on books by Karen Travis. Remaking Star Wars Battlefront II’s Capital Supremacy game mode in Republic Commando, utilizing the competitive, fast-paced and fun mode with RC’s squad-based. What makes the squad in Star Wars Republic Commando so unique is the game’s innovative ‘One Touch Squad Control’ system that allows you to engage your squad with just one button. You’ll have more than a dozen deadly weapons at your disposal, but none more lethal than your squad. Leading a 4-man squad of Republic Commandos, your missions take you deep behind enemy lines on over 14 intense and challenging levels through three different campaigns where you will face more than ten brutal enemies. Star Wars Republic Commando is a squad-based first person shooter that lets you explore the elite world of the Star Wars military. Despite the squad-based nature of the game (and much begging and pleading on our part), however, there will be no cooperative multiplayer.
Multiplayer options will include the obligatory deathmatch and team deathmatch, plus the almost-obligatory capture the flag mode.
The games are both based off the proven Unreal technology, with the PC version looking sharp at higher resolution. My favorite touch, though, was the world's most high-tech visor wiper, which kicked in whenever some of the yellow bug gore from enemies got on one's faceplate.
There were plenty of nice details and effects to goggle at, including dazzling weapon effects. This seems a nice touch that will keep players from getting frustrated when teammates fall while they aren't looking (though they seemed to take pretty good care of themselves on their own). A straightforward revival system ensures that they will be back in the game quickly. Players need not worry (or quick load) if one member of their squad gets gunned down, though. This level of simple but effective squad control seems to set Republic Commando apart from other games of its ilk that I've seen so far. You can also give orders through pointing your crosshairs at areas and hitting keys bound to specific actions like attack, hold, or group up. If want one of your squadmates to take that suggested action, you just hit a key and watch him go. When you move your reticule over objects and areas within the game, you sometimes see a glowing outline of a soldier doing something with the object in the vicinity. The squad is critical, and fortunately you have pretty good control of them through a clever contextual menu system. That's because it's the central unit of the game, even though you play the squad leader from the first-person view.
We got to see our squad square off against the bug-like race from Episode II (one of seven races and 15 missions to be included in the full game) as they worked their way through a subterranean level.Īnd notice that I keep emphasizing the squad. In fact, some of the characters and locations from the upcoming Episode III will be featured in the game, including a cameo by that movie's main villain, General Grevious. Taking place between the Episode II and Episode III movies, Commando takes you to many of the locations from those films.
